Aniimo elements list and creature typings
Nine elements, one per creature, and a tenth that may or may not exist. Here is the full list and every species typing confirmed so far.

The short version
- The combat system runs on nine distinct elements: light, fire, ice, dark, lightning, grass, water, earth and wind.
- Lightning is also called electric. Rock appears in a longer version of the roster, so the count is not settled yet.
- A creature's element sets the elemental damage it deals, and its own typing sets what incoming attacks do to it.
- Helion and Lunara share a typing, so the starter choice does not give you a different elemental weakness.
- Element does not imply role. Dark alone covers supports and a ranged damage dealer.
Every Aniimo has an element. It is the first thing worth knowing about a creature, because it sits underneath everything the creature does in a fight, and unlike a level or a piece of gear it is not something you change later.
The list itself is short and easy to hold in your head. Nine elements: light, fire, ice, dark, lightning, grass, water, earth and wind. Lightning also turns up under the name electric, so if you see both, they are the same thing.
There is one loose end. A longer version of the roster exists with ten entries, the same nine plus rock. That is not settled yet, and it is the kind of thing that gets pinned down at launch rather than before it.
Nine elements, and the rock question
The combat system features nine distinct elements. Light, fire, ice, dark, lightning, grass, water, earth, wind. Grass is a full element in its own right, not a subcategory of anything.
Lightning and electric are two names for the same element, so do not go looking for a tenth slot there. Rock is the actual open question. The roster is also given as ten elements, that same nine with rock added, and which of those two counts is correct has not been resolved. Plan around nine. If rock lands, it lands as an addition rather than a rewrite.

What your element decides in a fight
Two things, and they point in opposite directions. Aniimo creatures have associated elemental types that determine the elemental damage they deal in combat. That is the offensive half. The defensive half is the same property read the other way: an Aniimo's elemental matchup against an incoming attack is determined by its own typing.
So a creature's element is not a stat you spend on. It is a fixed answer to two questions at once, what this creature does to the enemy and what the enemy does to it. How those matchups resolve is the subject of the combat guide.
Confirmed typings, species by species
Lunara is the light one. She is a starter, a ranged magical DPS who throws wide area-of-effect magic from a safe distance. Helion is the other starter, and Helion and Lunara share the same typing, which means neither one hands you a different elemental weakness. Pick on playstyle. The element is not part of that decision.
Emberpup is fire, and a damage dealer. Shelly and Sherro are both water. On the dark side there are three: Dewy, a support, Dreaple, an early-game support you will run into soon, and Celestis, a ranged damage dealer. Wind has two, Nimbi as support and Flutternym as a healer and support.
Ice, lightning, earth and grass have no species named on this page. They are confirmed elements. The creatures carrying them are simply not pinned down here yet.

Element tells you nothing about role
This is worth internalising early, because it is easy to assume otherwise. Dark covers Dewy and Dreaple, both supports, and also Celestis, a ranged damage dealer. Wind covers Nimbi, a support, and Flutternym, a healer. Light covers Lunara, who is a DPS.
The pattern is that there is no pattern. A creature's element and a creature's job are two separate facts you have to learn about it, and knowing one does not let you guess the other. When you are building a party, read both. Team composition itself is covered in the party roles guide.
Where to start
Learn the nine, treat rock as an open question, and read a creature's element as one of two independent facts about it. The other fact is its role, and the element will not tell you what that is.
