Does the Aniipod affect what an egg hatches?

Mega pods change nothing when you hatch an egg. Legendary, Windchaser and Ultra pods do. Here's which one to pair with which egg, and what each adds.

The short version

  1. You can't hatch an egg without an Anipod or Anicube, and you choose which one before the egg opens.
  2. A standard Anipod gives randomized characteristics, so even an Alpha egg can hatch with only Good potential.
  3. Mega Anipods and Mega Anicubes have no effect on hatching, and Regular, Pursuit and Pro Anipods add no extra hatching effect either.
  4. Only the Legendary Anipod gives the exclusive sparkling hatch effect, and only the Windchaser's Departure Anipod gives the Windchaser seasonal effect.
  5. An Ultra Anipod raises the floor on what comes out, but exactly how high that floor is has not been settled.

Yes, the Aniipod you choose affects what an egg hatches into, but only some pods do. You need a pod to hatch an egg at all, and when you pair one with the egg, that pod can change the result.

The catch is that most pods don't change it. Mega pods look like an upgrade and do nothing at hatch. The pods that do matter are Legendary, Windchaser's Departure and Ultra, and the Ultra is the one whose effect is least pinned down.

How to hatch eggs: the pod comes first

An incubated egg won't open by itself. To open it and receive the Aniimo, you need an Anipod or an Anicube, and you have to select it before the hatch goes ahead. The choice covers everything from regular pods up to special Ultra and Sparkling pods, and the one you pick affects the hatch result.

Incubation itself is a system of its own, covered in our main egg incubation and hatching guide. This page is about the last step only: which pod you put the egg in.

What a standard Anipod gives you

A standard Anipod gives randomized characteristics. The egg sets what you're hatching, and the pod leaves the rest to chance.

That applies to eggs you'd expect to be good, too. An Alpha egg hatched in a standard Anipod can still come out with only Good potential. If you have a valuable egg and a better pod available, this is the reason to use the better pod on it.

Pods that change nothing at hatch

Mega Anipods and Mega Anicubes don't alter egg hatching results and don't add any other effect. The name suggests a step up, but for hatching a Mega pod does the same job as a plain one.

Regular, Pursuit and Pro Anipods are similar. None of them shows an extra hatching effect. They'll open the egg, and that's all they do. If one of these is what you have, use it on eggs where the result doesn't matter much, and keep your better pods for the rest.

Legendary and Windchaser's Departure: the cosmetic effects

The Legendary Anipod is the only pod with the exclusive sparkling hatch effect. No other Anipod gives it, so if you want that effect, you need a Legendary.

The Windchaser's Departure Anipod gives an exclusive Windchaser seasonal effect. It's tied to its own pod in the same way, so another pod can't stand in for it.

Which pods add anything at hatch

No extra effect

  • Mega Anipods and Mega Anicubes do not alter hatching results
  • Mega pods provide no additional effects
  • Regular, Pursuit and Pro Anipods show no extra hatching effect

Cosmetic hatch effect

  • Legendary Anipods have an exclusive sparkling hatch effect
  • Windchaser's Departure Anipod grants an exclusive Windchaser seasonal effect

Ultra Anipods: a better floor, but how much better is not settled

The Ultra Anipod affects the Aniimo you catch or hatch with it, and it's the main reason to save a pod for an important egg. What it guarantees is not settled yet. The floor it sets may be any of these: a minimum of Epic potential; Elite rarity or higher, including at least Elite acquired potential; a guaranteed Ultra rating or above; or only a chance of Elite potential, with no guarantee.

These differ a lot. At the top end, an Ultra pod would remove the bad outcome that a standard pod allows on an Alpha egg. At the bottom end, it only improves your odds. Until the guarantee is settled, assume the Ultra pod helps and don't assume it promises any particular result.

Where to start

Use your Regular, Pursuit, Pro and Mega pods on eggs you don't care much about, because for hatching they all do the same thing. Keep Ultra Anipods for your best eggs, Alpha eggs especially, because a standard pod can still give those a Good result. Use a Legendary or Windchaser's Departure pod when you want its exclusive effect on the creature.
