Grass Team Guide: Irisalis, Melobloom and Leafy
Irisalis deals the damage, Melobloom adds 70% Grass crit damage, Leafy heals. Here is how the clone kit works and why Grass waits on Iris Solace.
The short version
- Irisalis is a Grass-type DPS whose damage comes from clones that last 30 seconds, and repeating a skill never gives you more than one clone from it.
- The Floral Rainbow Feather's core effect raises summoned clone damage by 30%, which makes it a natural fit for Irisalis.
- Melobloom's ultimate, Rose Garden, gives allies inside its circle a 70% increase to Grass critical damage for 30 seconds.
- Leafy heals and regenerates, and its ultimate Lotus Bloom gives the team a 15% Grass elemental damage boost.
- Grass teams are relatively weak right now and are expected to improve once Iris Solace is available.
A Grass team has a clear shape. Irisalis does the damage, Melobloom and Leafy keep her alive and hitting harder, Tuckin handles break and Somniwing keeps the EP flowing. Every piece is Grass or works for Grass, and the buffs all point at the same kind of hit: a Grass critical.
The honest part comes first. Grass teams are relatively weak at the moment. They are expected to improve once Iris Solace is available, so build this team because you like it or because you are planning ahead, not because it tops anything today.
What follows covers how Irisalis actually makes her damage, which parts of her kit are still unsettled, and what each support brings.
Irisalis: the clones are the damage
Irisalis is a Grass-type DPS Aniimo, and she fights by spinning. Her Floral Storm is a spinning attack that can hit up to three targets at once, which makes her comfortable in a crowd.
Her real damage comes from clones. When Iris Shadow hits a target, she summons one clone. Spamming the skill does not stack them up: repeating her skills never generates more than one clone per skill. Her ultimate deals damage and spawns an additional clone on top. Clones last 30 seconds, so you have a window to get them out and let them work rather than a frantic rhythm of recasting.
Whirling Blossom Rain is her movement tool. It makes her spin and dash in a chosen direction, which gives her mobility and a way to evade that saves stamina. On a DPS that wants to stay close to the target while her clones fire, that matters.
If you are gearing her, look at the Floral Rainbow Feather. Its core effect increases summoned clone damage by 30%, and Irisalis is exactly the kind of Aniimo it is built for.
What is not settled about her kit

Two parts of Irisalis are not settled yet, and you should know which before you plan a rotation around them.
The first is the name and behaviour of her core skill. It is given both as Iris Shadow, which summons a clone that lasts on the field for 30 seconds, and as Whirling Blossom, which spawns up to two shadow clones at a time when it hits, with the second clone tied to her signature weapon. If the second version holds, her signature weapon is worth more to her than a normal upgrade.
The second is what makes her active Iris Clones fire a Floral Gleam Beam at the target. It is given both as her dash ability, and as landing the final hit of a basic attack combo or casting Whirling Blossom Rain. Either way, all of her active clones fire together, so the more clones you have up when it triggers, the bigger the payoff. Test it in your own fights rather than trusting one fixed rotation.
Melobloom and Leafy: crits, healing and Grass damage

Melobloom is a Grass-element Aniimo and primarily a support. In a Grass team built around Irisalis, she fills the support role. Her ultimate is Rose Garden, and it grants allies inside its circle a 70% increase to Grass critical damage for 30 seconds. That is the same length as an Irisalis clone, which makes the two easy to line up.
She heals as well. When her rose mark blooms after a target suffers three critical hits, it heals all nearby allies for 5% of her HP. A team that crits often gets more healing out of her, so her buff and her sustain feed each other.
Crits matter elsewhere in a Grass team too. Thorny Blessing's thorns deal damage only when a Grass Aniimo lands a critical hit, so anything that pushes your crits up pays twice.
If you want her, note that evolving Budsquire into Melobloom requires completing the Flowers and Thorns journey quest. Leave it undone and you cannot make the evolution.
Leafy is a Grass boss Aniimo that you can use as a support focused on regeneration and healing. Its ultimate, Lotus Bloom, grants the team a 15% Grass elemental damage boost. Where Melobloom makes Grass crits hit harder, Leafy raises Grass damage across the board and keeps the team topped up.
Melobloom
- Rose Garden grants allies in its circle 70% more Grass critical damage for 30 seconds
- Rose mark heals nearby allies for 5% of her HP after three critical hits
- Evolving from Budsquire needs the Flowers and Thorns journey quest
Leafy
- Grass boss Aniimo usable as a support
- Focused on regeneration and healing
- Lotus Bloom grants the team a 15% Grass elemental damage boost
Tuckin, Somniwing and Thornblade

Tuckin is a Grass-type break Aniimo and the break option for an Irisalis team. If you want the slot to stay Grass, Tuckin is the pick.
Somniwing is an EP regeneration support that acts as an energy battery for EP-hungry teams, and Grass teams built on Irisalis are on that list. It does not add damage on its own; it lets everyone else use their skills more often.
Irisalis is not the only damage dealer on offer. Thornblade is a high-damage Aniimo that serves as the main DPS of a Grass team. If you do not have Irisalis, or prefer a straighter damage dealer to a clone summoner, the same supports still apply, since Rose Garden and Lotus Bloom boost Grass damage rather than any one Aniimo.
Why Grass teams are weak right now
Grass teams are currently relatively weak. The pieces work together well on paper: clones that last 30 seconds, a 30 second crit damage window, a team-wide Grass damage boost and an EP battery. The element as a whole is still behind.
That is expected to change once Iris Solace is available. Until then, a Grass team is a reasonable thing to build if you already own the Aniimo and want them ready, but it is not the strongest place to spend your resources today.
Where to start
Build around Irisalis with the Floral Rainbow Feather, pair Melobloom and Leafy for crit damage, Grass damage and healing, and add Tuckin for break or Somniwing for EP. Finish the Flowers and Thorns journey quest early so Melobloom is ready. Expect the team to sit behind other elements until Iris Solace is available.
