Inferlupa: How to Unlock, Evolution Quest and Break Kit

Finishing the Warrior quest does not evolve Flameruff. You need six Unbroken Flameruff Spirits, which drop only from Flameruff the Mighty, plus a Night Stone.

The short version

  1. Inferlupa evolution needs six Unbroken Flameruff Spirits and a Night Stone. Completing the Warrior quest on its own evolves nothing.
  2. Unbroken Flameruff Spirits drop only from defeating Flameruff the Mighty, the elite daytime Gamma-stage Flameruff in the Inferlupa elite battle area. The chance is low, capturing it gives you nothing, and plain Flameruffs never drop them.
  3. One Flux Crystal can stand in for the Night Stone. Flux Crystals cannot replace the Unbroken Flameruff Spirits.
  4. Only the basic orange Flameruff can evolve into Inferlupa. Regional variants such as Highland and Mountainwoods cannot.
  5. The Warrior quest is time-gated across real-world days, with stages unlocking at daily server resets, so start it early.

Inferlupa is the fire wolf at the end of one branch of the Emberpup line, and getting it takes longer than most evolutions in Aniimo. There is a questline that only moves forward once a day, a specific Flameruff you have to raise, and a pair of evolution materials, one of which comes from a single elite enemy at a low drop rate.

This guide covers the Inferlupa quest from start to finish: how the Warrior quest gates it, which Flameruff actually counts, how to get Flameruff Spirits, and where the Night Stone fits in. You may also see Inferlupa written as Infernal Looper, Infernal Lupa or Infralupa. They all mean the same creature.

Inferlupa. One branch of the Emberpup evolution path.

Where Inferlupa sits on the Emberpup line

Inferlupa
Inferlupa

Emberpup is the fire Aniimo you get at the very beginning of the game, during the opening storyline. Its evolution path branches, and one of those branches ends in Inferlupa.

How the line is laid out is not settled. In one version Emberpup evolves straight into Inferlupa. In the other Emberpup evolves into Flameruff, its Gamma-stage form, on a line that continues to Scorchhowl, and Inferlupa comes off Flameruff instead.

How you obtain Inferlupa is just as unsettled. It is given as the reward for a side quest that starts at the top of Thousand Fang Ridge and ends in a battle on the third day. It is also given as an evolution of Flameruff, unlocked by the Warrior quest. Most of the practical detail below belongs to the Flameruff route, so that is the one this guide follows.

The Warrior quest and its daily gates

Some Aniimo evolutions are locked behind journey quests. Budsquire, for example, only becomes Mellowbloom once you have completed the Flowers and Thorns journey quest. Inferlupa works the same way, and its gate is the Warrior quest.

The Warrior quest line is required for both Pawney and Inferlupa, and it splits into a separate path for each. The Inferlupa branch concerns the secret of Beast Fang Ridge.

The catch is time. The Warrior quest spans three real-world days, with its mission stages unlocking at daily server resets, and it requires waiting two real-world days to complete. You cannot rush it. Part of that waiting is with Ico at base camp: progressing the Infralupa questline means listening to four stories from Ico, spread across multiple real-world days. The practical advice is to start the quest as early as you can and check in after each reset.

Two more steps catch people out. First, the Emberpup pack only appears once you switch the time to night, and you need them to continue the dialogue. Second, at one point Dr. Lewis calls. Answering starts a separate quest, Fragrant Colors, which is not required for Inferlupa. Do it if you like, but it will not move the Inferlupa quest forward.

Which Flameruff can evolve into Inferlupa

Flameruff
Flameruff

Flameruff spawns in Beast Fang Ridge, but only after you have completed part of the Inferno quest. If you are standing on the ridge and seeing none, that is the likely reason.

Be picky about which one you raise. Only the basic orange form of Flameruff can evolve into Inferlupa. Regional variants such as Highland and Mountainwoods cannot, however far you level them. Check the colour before you invest anything.

How to get Flameruff Spirits

This is the part of the evolution that takes the most time. Evolving into Inferlupa requires six Unbroken Flameruff Spirits, and finishing the Warrior quest alone does not evolve anything. The quest unlocks the evolution; the Spirits pay for it.

There is exactly one source. Unbroken Flameruff Spirits drop only from defeating Flameruff the Mighty, the special elite Gamma-stage Flameruff that appears in the daytime in the Inferlupa elite battle area. Three conditions matter:

You have to defeat it. Capturing Flameruff the Mighty does not give you a Spirit.

It has to be the titled one. Plain Flameruffs without the title do not drop Spirits, so farming ordinary Flameruff on the ridge is wasted time.

The drop is a low chance, and it replaces the evolution stone that would otherwise drop. Expect a run that gives you a stone and no Spirit to be the normal result, not bad luck.

Flux Crystals cannot substitute for Unbroken Flameruff Spirits. There is no shortcut around this farm.

Unbroken Flameruff Spirits needed

They drop rarely and only from defeating Flameruff the Mighty, so plan on several fights before you can evolve.

The Night Stone and the Flux Crystal shortcut

The second material is a Night Stone, which evolving into Inferlupa also requires. Here you do have an alternative: one Flux Crystal can substitute for the Night Stone when evolving Flameruff into Inferlupa.

Keep the two substitutions straight, because they are easy to mix up. A Flux Crystal can replace the Night Stone. A Flux Crystal cannot replace the Spirits. So the full kit is six Unbroken Flameruff Spirits plus either a Night Stone or one Flux Crystal, on a basic orange Flameruff, with the Warrior quest done.

There is also a Vein Abundance event for Inferlupa (listed there as Infernal Looper) beginning on October 12th, which is worth keeping an eye on if you are still working through the quest.

Where to start

Start the Warrior quest now, because its daily gates are the one part you cannot speed up. While you wait between resets, catch a basic orange Flameruff, then farm Flameruff the Mighty in daylight for six Unbroken Flameruff Spirits. Defeat it, don't capture it. Use a Flux Crystal if you have no Night Stone, and skip Fragrant Colors unless you want it for its own sake.
