Traversal Aniimo list: who flies, swims, climbs and digs
Celestis flies and climbs, Skippy swims early, Helmork finds camouflaged creatures when twined. Here is which Aniimo opens which route.
The short version
- Celestis can both fly and climb, and Infergon flies with the Fly III traversal ability.
- Skippy gives level one swimming, which makes it the one to have for water in the early game.
- Emberpup and Helion both have Hustle, an active ability that speeds up sprinting at the cost of stamina.
- Magmar Rex's run skill, listed as Fast and Furious or Hustle, breaks through obstacles and pushes past strong wind.
- Many world puzzles need a Fire-type to burn vines and wooden barriers, and Helmork, when twined, detects camouflaged creatures and metallic objects.
Out of combat, your Aniimo double as transport and tools. Some take you into the air, some through water, some under the ground, and a few clear things out of your way or find what you cannot see.
This page goes creature by creature, grouped by what each one lets you do. It covers flight, climbing, swimming, burrowing, Hustle sprinting, burning vines and detection. If you want to know which Aniimo to bring to a particular kind of terrain, start here.
Flying and climbing: Celestis and Infergon

Celestis is the most flexible traversal pick on this list. It can fly, and it can climb, so one creature covers both open sky and vertical surfaces. Its spawns, evolution and full kit have their own guide on this site; for traversal, those two abilities are what matter.
Infergon is the other flyer. It carries the Fly III traversal ability, so it is a proper mount for getting across the map by air rather than a creature with flight as a side note.

Swimming and burrowing: Skippy, Budclaw and Hummin

Skippy provides level one swimming traversal. That is the reason to keep it around in the early game: it is your way across water before you have anything better.
Budclaw lives underground in two senses. Like some other shy Aniimo, it burrows to hide when it is startled, which matters when you are trying to catch one. It also burrows to travel.
Hummin can dig into the ground as well. If a route or a hiding spot is below the surface, these are the two names to remember.
Hustle: Emberpup, Helion and Magmar Rex

Hustle is an active ability for covering ground fast. Emberpup has it as a traversal ability that lets you sprint across the map more quickly, and it consumes stamina while you do. Helion has it too, as an exploration Mobility ability that raises sprint and movement speed, again at the cost of stamina. Either one is about speed on foot; neither is free to run forever.
Magmar Rex goes further. Its skill is listed both as Fast and Furious and as Hustle, and it lets Magmar Rex run around breaking through obstacles and bypassing strong wind. So where Emberpup and Helion just make you quicker, Magmar Rex also clears a path and keeps going where wind would otherwise stop you.
Burning vines and finding hidden things
Fire-type Aniimo have a field ability that burns obstacles such as wooden barriers and trees blocking paths, and it activates fire-based environmental puzzles. Many world puzzles require it, and certain puzzles specifically need an Aniimo that can burn vines. Charcoal Dog does this with its fire-breathing skill. The full breakdown of obstacles and puzzles has its own guide; the short version is that you want a Fire-type with you.
Helmork fills a different gap. When twined, it has an out-of-combat detection ability that locates camouflaged creatures and metallic objects. That makes it the pick when what you are after is hidden rather than blocked.
Where to start
Cover the basics first: Skippy for early water, a Fire-type such as Charcoal Dog for vines and barriers, and Emberpup or Helion for Hustle. After that, Celestis or Infergon gets you into the air, and Helmork is worth twining when you are hunting for hidden creatures or metal.
