Where to find every Alpha boss: Geoclaw, Minespine and more

Alpha Geoclaw is level 55 and sits behind a 120 Lumin Amber path. Minespine is level 60 and needs a tunnelling Aniimo. Here is the route to each named Alpha.

The short version

  1. Alpha Geoclaw is level 55 and lives in a cave in the Nimbus Fields. Opening the path to it and the other secret Alpha boss locations costs 120 Lumin Amber.
  2. Alpha Minespine is level 60. You reach it from the Beast Fang Ridge teleport, and you need an Aniimo with the tunnel ability, such as Budclaw, to get under a boulder.
  3. Alpha Luminelle only spawns at night in the far south, and only after a shooting star lands.
  4. Alpha Tubster has no access requirements. It sits in the Argent Strait, below Omega Tukin.
  5. Selecting Go on an undiscovered Alpha marks and tracks its spawn on the map, and the map filters can show Alpha locations.

Alpha Aniimo are not rare set pieces you have to hunt for blind. They roam the world map, every region has them, and plenty show up as regular wild encounters as well as world bosses. The hard part is the handful of named Alpha bosses tucked behind caves, cliffs, geysers and night spawns.

This guide covers each named Alpha in turn: where it is, how you get there, what you need to unlock the route and, where it is known, its level. Geoclaw and Minespine come first because they take the most setup.

How to track any Alpha Aniimo on the map

Start with the map. Alpha locations are marked on it, and the map filters let you show them. If you find an Alpha you have not discovered yet, select Go on it. That marks its spawn location and tracks it, so you can leave and come back without searching the area again.

The Holo Battle Interlink routes work differently. Each route has its own Alpha encounters and its own environmental mechanics, so treat each one as a separate hunt.

Some of the bosses below are tucked behind secret paths, and those paths cost money. Opening the way to the secret Alpha boss locations, Alpha Geoclaw included, takes 120 Lumin Amber. Save that up before you head out, or you will walk to the cave mouth and find nothing open.

Alpha Geoclaw: Nimbus Fields, level 55

Geoclaw
Geoclaw

Alpha Geoclaw is level 55. It lives inside a cave in the Nimbus Fields. To find it, follow the stream and lake to the west of the Breezy Plains branch. The cave sits near a giant hole and a river.

The cave only opens through a revelation. The game shows it as Earth Wake Revelation, and you may also see it called Earthquake Revelation. Whichever name you see, that revelation is what opens the pathway in. On top of that, this is one of the secret Alpha locations, so the 120 Lumin Amber cost applies.

The route also has an obstacle on it. Past the hole you will find a Lumberer and a growth blocking the path. Deal with both and the way to Geoclaw is clear.

120

Lumin Amber to open the path

Opening the path to secret Alpha boss locations such as the Alpha Geoclaw costs 120 Lumin Amber, so save it up before you set out.
Alpha Geoclaw is level 55 and waits in a Nimbus Fields cave revealed by Earth Wake Revelation.

Alpha Minespine: Beast Fang Ridge, level 60

Minespine
Minespine

Alpha Minespine is level 60, which makes it the highest level Alpha on this list.

Start at the Beast Fang Ridge teleport point. Head west into the mountains. The boss is in a hidden cave, and the entrance is right at the edge of a cliff, so watch the drop rather than the horizon.

You cannot just walk in. A boulder blocks the way into the cavern, and you can only get past it by going underneath with an Aniimo that has the tunnel ability. Budclaw is one that does. If your team has no tunneller, sort that out before you make the trip.

Underground Alphas: Grisbow, Magmarex and Tubster

Tubster
Tubster

Three more Alphas are underground or underwater, and they vary a lot in how much effort they take.

Alpha Grisbow is underground inside Bear Cave.

Alpha Magmarex takes more work. It waits at the far end of an underground arena, and you get into that arena by going down through a geyser. Expect to cross the whole arena before you reach it.

Alpha Tubster is the easy one. It sits in the Argent Strait, below Omega Tukin, and it has no access requirements at all. No revelation, no Lumin Amber, no special ability. If you want an early Alpha with no setup, this is it.

Night and starlight: Alpha Luminelle and Alpha Stellarys

Luminelle
Luminelle

Alpha Luminelle runs on a schedule. It only spawns at night, in the far south of the map, and it only arrives after a shooting star lands. If you go during the day you will find nothing, so time the trip for nightfall and watch the sky.

Alpha Stellarys is simpler to find. It appears in the wild and shows up on the map, so the Alpha filter will point you straight to it. Its Shooting Stars ability is worth knowing about before the fight. It fires five homing stars and gives a damage boost that scales up to 20%.

Leafy, Ignitis, Rookey and the normal forms

Rookey
Rookey

Alpha Leafy is caught the usual boss way. Find it in the wild, defeat it in battle, then capture it. Leafy also comes in a normal form, but the Alpha is the one worth catching.

Ignitis is also an Alpha boss, but its location is not covered here yet.

If an Alpha keeps escaping, you still have a fallback. Normal forms of Aniimo, including the normal versions of Alpha species, can be caught in the open world at ordinary catch rates. Rookey is the clearest example: you can catch standard Rookey in the area around the Alpha Rookey spawn, so you can still get the species even if the Alpha refuses to be captured.

Where to start

Get Alpha Tubster first, since it has no requirements. Next, save 120 Lumin Amber and unlock the Earth Wake Revelation for Alpha Geoclaw, then bring a tunnelling Aniimo such as Budclaw to Beast Fang Ridge for Alpha Minespine. Go for Alpha Luminelle at night, and use the map filters and the Go button to track everything else.
