Aniimo Evolution Levels and Requirements

Prankie turns at 20, Flutternym at 21, and Emberpup's line splits more than once. Evolving an Umbral Aniimo keeps perfect potential and takes the perks for good.

The short version

  1. Hitting the level is often not enough: some evolutions also want a personality trait, a Pathfinder talent tree unlock, a trade to another player, or an Alpha variant of that species put down.
  2. Prankie evolves into Glacy at level 20 or into Leafy instead, and branching lines are decided by quest choices and the items you have collected.
  3. Flutternym's evolution into Gracewing unlocks at level 21, and Celestis evolves at level 18.
  4. Emberpup's line runs through Flameruff at the gamma stage, and the Warrior quest unlocks Inferlupa as an evolution for Flameruff.
  5. Pawney cannot be caught in the wild at any point in the game. You get one by finding Helmut in the Russet Highlands and evolving it.
  6. Evolving an Umbral Aniimo permanently strips the Umbral look, state and perks, but the perfect potential stays. The game warns you first.

Evolution in Aniimo is not one system. Some creatures want a level and nothing else. Others want a level plus something you have to go and do, and a few skip the process entirely because of how you obtained them.

This guide covers the levels that are actually pinned to a creature, the conditions that sit on top of them, and the one evolution decision you cannot take back. If you are holding an Umbral Aniimo, read the last section before you press confirm.

Leveling is only half of the requirement

Certain Aniimo evolutions require specific conditions or progression milestones beyond simply leveling up. Carry that into every line below, because a creature sitting at the right level and refusing to change is usually waiting on something else.

The extra requirements come in several shapes. Some stages require a specific personality trait. Some must be unlocked through the Pathfinder's character talent tree, also called the Pathfinder skill tree, which puts the gate on your account rather than on the creature. Some require defeating an Alpha variant of that species. And some require trading the Aniimo to another player to trigger the evolution at all, so a solo run stalls on those until you find someone to pass it to.

There is also a shortcut that bypasses the question. Catching an Alpha boss grants an already-evolved Aniimo, so you get the later form without ever running the evolution yourself.

Not every line is straight, either. Some Aniimo evolve along branching paths rather than a single linear line, offering two path options with their own requirements, and which one you end up on is determined by quest decisions and the items you have collected.

The evolution levels you can pin down

Stellarys
Stellarys

Prankie is the clearest example of a branch. It evolves into Glacy at level 20, or into Leafy instead. The level given is the one on the Glacy side.

Flutternym evolves into Gracewing, and that evolution unlocks at level 21.

Celestis evolves at level 18. The name of what it becomes is not settled, appearing as both Stellarys and Stellarys, and there is a second route into the line: Stellarys can be obtained early in progression by advancing through Celestice. That creature has its own guide on this site, so take the level as the part you need here.

Budclaw is the line still unsettled. It is given as evolving into Geoclaw and as evolving into Shrubclaw, and which of those is right has not been resolved.

Emberpup evolution: Flameruff, Scorchhowl and Inferlupa

Flameruff
Flameruff

Emberpup is the most asked about line, and also the messiest, because the line itself is not settled.

One version runs Emberpup into Flameruff, with Flameruff as the gamma-stage evolution, and continues from there to Scorchhowl, also written as Scorch Howl. The other attaches Inferlupa, also written as Infernal Lupa, to Emberpup directly.

The quest hook is firm. The Warrior quest unlocks Inferlupa as an evolution for Flameruff, so the two branches are not fully separate. Flameruff is the point where the Inferlupa route opens.

How you get Inferlupa is unsettled on its own. It is given as a side quest reward, and it is given as an evolution gated behind a questline that spans three real-world days, with its mission stages unlocking at daily server resets. If you are on that version, there is no way to rush it. You log in, clear the stage that opened, and come back after the next reset.

The Emberpup line as the sources give it
  1. EmberpupThe base form of the line.
  2. FlameruffThe gamma stage evolution of Emberpup. The Warrior quest also unlocks Inferlupa from here.
  3. ScorchhowlWhere the Flameruff line continues. Also written Scorch Howl.

Pawney is an evolution, not a catch

Pawney
Pawney

Pawney cannot be caught in the wild in Aniimo at any stage of the game. No area, no time of day, no later unlock. It is obtained instead by evolving Helmut.

Helmut is the Lumin stage of the Pawney evolutionary line, and it can be found in the Russet Highlands, an area of the Breezy Plains region. So if Pawney is on your list, the Russet Highlands is where that hunt actually starts.

Pawney cannot be caught in the wild at any stage of the game. It comes from evolving Helmut, the Lumin stage of the line, found in the Russet Highlands of Breezy Plains.

Evolving an Umbral Aniimo trades the perks for the form

Umbra Aniimo have a distinctive dark essence appearance, with coloration resembling that of Darklers. That look is part of a package, and evolution ends the package.

Evolving an Umbral Aniimo permanently removes its Umbral visual appearance, its Umbral state and its special perks. Permanently is the word to sit with. The Umbral trait is lost upon evolution and does not come back.

What survives is the potential. Evolving an Umbral Aniimo retains its perfect potential, so the ceiling you caught it for is still there in the evolved form. What you give up is everything that made it look and play as an Umbral.

The game does not let you do this by accident. It shows a confirmation warning before allowing the evolution to proceed. Read it rather than clicking through, because this one has no undo.

Umbral Aniimo. Keep the trait or take the evolution

Leave it Umbral

  • Keeps the distinctive dark essence appearance, coloured like a Darkler.
  • Keeps the Umbral state and its special perks.

Evolve it

  • The Umbral appearance, state and special perks are removed permanently.
  • Perfect potential is retained through the evolution.
  • The game shows a confirmation warning before it proceeds.

Where to start

Check the level first, then check what else the line wants: a trait, a talent tree unlock, a trade, an Alpha fight, or a quest that runs on server resets. And before you evolve an Umbral Aniimo, decide whether you want the perks or the next form, because you only get one.
