Aniimo PvP duels, duel arenas and Egg Heist team modes
Duel arenas, PvP invites and a squad version of Egg Heist are all in Aniimo's design, but only Egg Heist's PvE mode is playable now and PvP has no date.
The short version
- PvP is not available yet: the only part of Egg Heist you can play is its PvE mode, and no PvP release date has been announced.
- PvP is planned as an optional feature, to be added after the current endgame content.
- The planned PvP covers 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 duel arenas, duels started with PvP invites, friendly duels between friends, and battles in Metropolis, the floating sky city.
- PvP Egg Heist is a three-player squad extraction mode on the Lost Isles (also given as the Lost Islands), where rival squads can take your items and whoever carries the giant egg turns into it and can't fight.
- The PvE Egg Heist you can play today works solo or as a two-player team with a friend, and a PvE-only cooperative extraction run is also offered as Team Mode.
If you came to Aniimo for competitive play, start with the bad news. PvP is not available yet. Of Egg Heist, the only part you can play is its PvE mode, and no date has been announced for PvP.
The PvP itself is designed, though, and there is a lot of it. Aniimo is built as a hybrid PvPvE game. The plans include duel arenas, invite-based duels, battles between players in Metropolis and the open world, and a squad version of Egg Heist where rival teams compete for the same eggs. This page covers what is designed, what is actually live, and which parts are still unsettled.
Is there PvP in Aniimo right now
No. Egg Heist is the only mode with a PvP version, and only its PvE mode is open today. No PvP release date has been announced.
PvP is planned as an optional feature, to be added after the current endgame content. Its status is still unsettled. The game is presented as having PvP modes where players fight each other, and it is also said to have had no PvP at launch. In practice, plan your time around PvE. Treat everything in the next two sections as the competitive layer that comes later.
The cooperative side does not have this problem. You can already take on challenges with other players, and that is covered in depth in the Multiplayer and Co-op guide.
Duels, duel arenas and PvP invites
Aniimo's PvP is designed around direct fights between trainers. There are two duel arena modes, 1-on-1 and 3-on-3. Outside the arenas, you start a duel by sending another player a PvP invite. That covers friendly duels between friends as well as more serious matches.
PvP also shows up in the world itself. Metropolis, the floating sky city, is a place where players fight each other in competitive PvP battles. Out in the shared open world you will run into other Pathfinders (the game's name for player characters) and can battle them as well.
The result is that PvP is designed to be something you opt into. You pick a format or send an invite. You are not simply jumped while exploring.
PvP Egg Heist: squads, the giant egg and rival teams
Operation: Egg Heist is the main multiplayer mode where PvP and PvE meet, and it has its own full guide on this site. It also goes by Egg Heist, PvP Egg Heist, Diamond Egg Heist, Diamond Egg Theft and Diamond Egg Stealing. It is an end-game extraction mode, first added in the third beta. You search for resources and exclusive Aniimo eggs, fight wild creatures, and try to get out with what you found.
In the PvP version, three-player squads are matched and dropped into a region called the Lost Isles, which is also given as the Lost Islands. Wild creatures are only part of the danger. Rival squads are there too, and they can take your items. The objective is the central giant egg. Whoever carries it turns into the egg and loses every combat ability, so the other two have to escort and protect that teammate until evacuation. In a squad fight, the carrier is your weakest point and the one the other teams will go after.
The competitive format is not settled. It appears as a mix of PvE and PvP, as a race between teams to collect eggs, as a PvP-only variant for teams of three, as a real-time PvEvP mode on the Lost Isles, as an objective-holding match between two teams, and as a team-versus-team match with six three-player teams fighting over a single objective. Only the three-player squad is consistent across all of them. Don't build a strategy around any one format until the mode actually opens.
The Egg Heist you can play today
The Egg Heist that is live is the PvE mode. You can play it solo, with no partner, or in co-op as a two-player team with a friend. A PvE-only cooperative extraction run is also offered separately as Team Mode.
The closed beta ran the same way. Egg Heist was PvE only there, and every enemy was AI-controlled. Nobody has played the squad-against-squad version in a public build yet, which is why its format is still so unsettled.
The PvE mode is still the closest practice you will get. You learn how extraction runs work, how wild creatures fight in the mode, and what it takes to get eggs out alive. All of that should carry over when rival squads arrive.
PvP Egg Heist
- Squads of three players
- Fight wild creatures and rival squads
- Take items from rival squads
- No release date announced
PvE Team Mode
- Cooperative extraction run
- Fought only against AI enemies
- No PvP combat
- Playable now
Where to start
Play Egg Heist in PvE, solo or with one friend, to learn how extraction works. Keep an eye out for news about the duel arenas and PvP Egg Heist, but don't count on either until a release date is announced.
