Can you play Aniimo solo? Solo modes and AI teammates
The main story can only be played alone, and Egg Heist clears solo on hard. The catch is the always online rule, and the lower rewards when AI teammates fill your slots.
The short version
- Aniimo is mainly a solo game: you can only progress the main story alone, and you can finish most of the game's content without anyone else.
- There is no offline mode. Aniimo needs a constant internet connection even when you play entirely solo.
- You can queue for Egg Heist alone, and you can finish it solo on both normal and hard mode. Its PvE mode also works solo or as a two-player team.
- Battle Interlink modes accept AI teammates, but running Holo-Battle Interlink solo with AI gives lower damage output and fewer rewards than playing with a real team.
- The Sanctum format is not settled. They are described as cooperative dungeons that need teamwork, and also as coming in solo, partner-required and timed variants.
Yes, you can play Aniimo solo, and for most of the game that is the intended way. The main story can only be progressed alone, and most of the game's content can be finished without a partner. Co-op, cross-platform play and the Egg Heist mode are optional extras on top of that.
There are two catches. You always need an internet connection, even with nobody else in your world. And in some team modes the game will give you AI teammates to make up the numbers, but they do not perform as well as real people do.
This guide covers what a solo player can finish alone: the story, Egg Heist, Battle Interlink with AI teammates and Sanctums.
Solo is the main way to play
Aniimo has a single-player mode, and most of the game's content can be completed entirely alone. The main story goes further than that: you can only progress it alone. So you will never have to wait for friends to come online before you can move the plot forward.
Multiplayer is optional. Online co-op is invite-only and takes up to four players. There is also cross-platform play and the Egg Heist PvPvE mode. None of these is required to see the story through.

Playing solo still means playing online
Solo does not mean offline. Aniimo needs a constant, active internet connection and has no offline mode, so you need a connection even when you never group with anyone. If your connection is unreliable, that affects your single-player sessions as much as your co-op ones.
The hardware and connection side is covered in our system requirements guide.
Aniimo Egg Heist solo
Operation: Egg Heist is the end-game egg extraction mode. You search an island for resources and exclusive Aniimo eggs, fighting wild creatures and rival squads, and you can take items from those squads. It has a PvP version and a PvE version. Our Operation: Egg Heist guide covers the mode in full. For a solo player, here is what matters.
You can queue for Egg Heist matchmaking alone or as a group, and the mode can be completed solo on both normal and hard mode. The PvE mode also works without a partner, or as a two-player co-op team with a friend. A PvE-only cooperative extraction run is now offered separately as Team Mode.
Watch the team setting before you queue. Egg Heist has a fill team option in the bottom-right corner, and it defaults to matchmaking fill teammates. If you want to go in with friends instead, they can form a team and join your Egg Heist party.
The exact format of the PvP side is not settled. It is described as a mode mixing PvE and PvP, as a race between teams to collect eggs, as a PvP-only variant played in teams of three, as an objective-holding match between two teams, and as a dedicated PvE-only cooperative mode. In the closed beta it was a PvE version fought only against AI-controlled enemies.
Solo
- Queue for matchmaking on your own
- Completable solo on normal and hard mode
- PvE mode playable without a partner
With others
- Fill team option defaults to matchmaking fill teammates
- Friends can form a team and join a party
- PvE mode playable as a two player team with a friend
Battle Interlink with AI teammates
Battle Interlink modes can be played with AI-controlled teammates. That includes Pathfinder challenge rematches and the four-player Holo-Battle Interlink, where you can play with a group or let AI fill any open slots. Hollow Battle Interlink likewise supports four-player cooperative teams or deploying with AI teammates.
The AI is there to let you play, not to carry you. Playing Holo-Battle Interlink solo with AI gives lower damage output and fewer rewards than playing in a team. So you can clear it alone, but a real group earns more.
The weekly prizes in Hollow Battle Interlink reset every week. Star rank rewards depend on your own battle rank, and support rewards for helping other players raise their star ranks scale with the highest rank gain achieved. Our Holo Battle Interlink guide covers routes and star ranks in detail.
Sanctums: not settled for solo players
Sanctums are instanced exploration shrines and puzzle mini-dungeons tied to world progression. Inside, you are restricted to twining with select Aniimo, you solve a series of environmental puzzles, and you claim a chest at the end.
Whether you can always clear them alone is not settled. Sanctums are described as cooperative dungeons that need teamwork, and also as coming in solo, partner-required and timed variants. So expect most of them to be fine solo, and expect that some may ask for a second player.
Where to start
If you want to play alone, Aniimo lets you. The story is solo only, Egg Heist clears solo on hard, and Battle Interlink fills empty slots with AI. Keep a stable connection, check the Egg Heist fill team setting before you queue, and bring friends when you want full Battle Interlink rewards.
